Episode 29 of European Cricket Stories features one of the most influential figures behind the scenes of the game. 🎙️

ECN Founder Daniel Weston sits down with Sir Rob Kemming, who at the time of the interview was ECN’s Match Referee, to reflect on a remarkable cricket journey that spans continents and generations.

Sir Rob shares his earliest memories of cricket bowling at a tree stump during school days in Zimbabwe. His sporting path also included baseball during senior school and a spell playing rugby before cricket eventually drew him back in. In 1979, he moved from Zimbabwe to Rotterdam in the Netherlands, joining Sparta Cricket Club, where his involvement with the game would continue for decades.

From club cricket, Sir Rob became deeply involved with the KNCB, taking on the role of manager of the Dutch national team before progressing to international responsibilities with the ICC as a match referee.

The conversation also highlights Sir Rob’s vital role within ECN, where he has shaped and trained umpiring teams, elevated decision making standards and helped improve the overall quality and credibility of T10 cricket. This episode offers insight into how strong officiating and leadership play a crucial role in the modern game.
