Episode 43 of European Cricket Stories celebrates family, loyalty and community spirit in Denmark. 🎙️

ECN Founder Daniel Weston sits down with Rizwan Mahmood, Captain of Skanderborg Cricket Club, to talk about a journey that began at home. Rizwan’s first memories of cricket come from playing with his father and brothers, picking up the game at just five or six years old.

At the age of 14 or 15, he moved to Skanderborg Cricket Club, a club he has represented ever since. Over the years, Skanderborg have qualified for the European Cricket League multiple times. Their first qualification was disrupted by coronavirus restrictions, forcing the cancellation of their ECL plans. Seeing them return in 2024 with travelling supporters marked a special moment for the club and its community.

Skanderborg may be a small club, but it operates like a big family. The team had limited exposure to T10 cricket, with only two members having previously played at the ECL through the Denmark national team. However, a strong batting lineup helped them adapt quickly to the fast paced nature of the format.

For Rizwan, the experience is even more personal. He still shares the field with two of his brothers and all three played a match just before this interview, with their father watching proudly from the fan zone. It is a powerful example of how cricket runs deep in families and communities.

This episode captures the heart of club cricket in Europe, where passion, loyalty and shared history create something far bigger than the game itself.
