Just the start for Finnish cricket as Helsinki chase ECL glory

Formed in 1972, Helsinki Cricket Club is the oldest in Finland, preceding the national cricket association by almost three decades.

Ever since the early seventies, the club has been the torchbearer in promoting cricketing activities in and around Helsinki. Having won the top honours in Finnish cricket several times, Helsinki CC continues to thrive, playing competitive cricket, improving the skills of players, youth development, and promoting the overall growth of the sport in Finland, as one of its core drivers along with Cricket Finland.

Helsinki CC sealed their spot at ECL20 by winning the 2019 Finnish T20 Premier League Championship on the back of blistering performances from the likes of Finland national team players, Aniketh Pusthay, Adnan Syed and Maneesh Chauhan.

And with temperatures plummeting in Finland, Helsinki CC have already begun their preparations for ECL20.

“A couple of months ago, we started training indoors, as it is usually sub-zero in Finland,” said Helsinki Chairman Zahoor Khan.

“We know that our strength is our team, we will try to focus on our fitness and leave no stone unturned.”

V.O.C. Rotterdam were crowned Kings of European cricket when they won the first edition of the European Cricket League (ECL) in magnificent fashion at La Manga Club in Spain. Naturally, the “Kings of Europe”, V.O.C. Rotterdam will automatically return to defend their majestic trophy between May 31 and June 7, 2020.

We welcome Helsinki to the 2020 European Cricket League.
