The European Cricket League (ECL) is proud to announce that Cricket Finland has signed a long-term partnership ensuring that the Finnish domestic champion club will now be invited to the ECL - the Champions League of European cricket.

Just the beginning for Finnish cricket as Finland become the latest to join ECL

“Andrew Armitage and his team in Finland are amongst the most professional cricket administrators in Europe,” said Daniel Weston, founder of the European Cricket League.

“The incredible development work and pride in the game over many years has been inspiring to see, and I am so excited that we can now watch and enjoy the domestic champion club from Cricket Finland play in the ECL.

“Finnish cricketers now have a new platform to aim further in their high-performance cricket programs, whilst the cricket communities, scorers, umpires, fans and children around the clubs in Finland can further bond together in their quest to claim the crown as “Kings of European cricket.””

Andrew Armitage, CEO of Cricket Finland, said: “We’re incredibly excited to become the latest member of the European Cricket League family. The ECL’s vision for cricket development aligns perfectly with our domestic strategy for growing the game - ECL is a competition that puts the best clubs in Europe head-to-head on a fantastic platform for all to see globally.

“This will offer a huge incentive for all our member clubs to potentially be the Kings of Europe, which in turn enables us to inspire many more current and future players in Finland to aim for new heights with their domestic clubs. I’m sure it will raise the standards and focus across Finland and Europe as anyone who’s anyone will want to be playing in the ECL moving forward.

“We look to work closely with Daniel and the ECL team to see how we can support this fantastic initiative to become an even bigger success in the future. We think our participating champion Club in next year’s event may turn some heads in a good way, so watch this space!”

The signing follows closely on the back of the dates announcement for the second staging of the European Cricket League (ECL20) from May 31 to June 7, 2020. ECL20 promises to be even bigger and better. Due to huge interest and demand for the competition, ECL20 will expand its number of champion teams - spread over eight days of exciting fast-paced T10 action.
