Founded originally in 2015 as Munich Women’s Cricket Club, and now the Bayerische Cricket Akademie “Bavarian Cricket Academy” is the one and only all-female cricket club in Bavaria, Germany.

European Cricket Family - Club of the Week: Bayerische Cricket Akademie

In a brief but successful five-season existence, Bayerische Cricket Akademie have twice become German national champions along with winning the Southern League title for three consecutive seasons.

“We are the first female cricket club in Bavaria, here to promote and develop women's cricket in Munich and also the southern part of Germany. Our aim is to get the game of cricket to all Munich women who are interested in cricket from beginner to advanced level, irrespective of nationalities and age group. In normal times, we offer training sessions every week in and around Munich, with coaching for players to improve their skills step by step, and a great chance to be part of team dynamics, compete professionally, socialize and enjoy the game of cricket, said BCA player Julia Bonnet.

“We would like to thank everybody that is involved with BCA, especially the committee who strive to grow the club and spread the word about cricket in Bavaria. Also, Serendib CC and Munich CC for supporting us by letting us use their grounds and facilities and helping out with coaching. The club members, who love the sport and are a great bunch of people,” added Julia.

The standout trophy success was capturing the 2018 German Championship in Munich.

“There was a great spirit of cricket on the day and every club had improved markedly compared to the previous season. On the field it was competitive and many new friendships were formed off the field. We had fans and even a mascot supporting and enjoyed a memorable celebration after our victory.”

However, Julia said that Ladies Cricket does not come without its struggles: “The biggest problem facing the club is finding our own ground and new members. We continue to search for a permanent ground.”

What is the history of your club and how were you formed?

We were a group of girls training on the side while the men had their training. Our numbers were growing so we decided to form our own club, which enables us to access sport facilities and organize ourselves better.

Goals for the upcoming season:

More training with better coaching. We have three new Level 1 coaches supporting our two main Level 2 coaches. More matches by finishing the national league earlier to have more time for local and interclub matches and friendlies. More social activities. Finding a permanent sportsground for summer and a hall for winter indoor training.
