Community Spotlight gets a new twist at the Cartama Oval as Furqan Shafiq takes Rico Phull for a spin in the Microlino. 🚗

A player to watch, Furqan made his ECN debut at the Weston Shield in February 2025, delivering a commanding performance with 351 runs at a stunning 292.50 strike rate, including 41 sixes, 19 fours and two half-centuries at an average of 39.

He began playing cricket at 16 and was soon scouted by Lancashire CCC, representing their academy side before making his first-class debut at the MCC. Furqan has since played across multiple clubs and leagues, with Leeds and Bradford MCCU as his home club — and remains one of the few Yorkshire players to feature on the ECN stage.

Off the field, Furqan is also an avid FIFA esports competitor, ranked inside the top 1000 players in the world. His cricket impressed. His Microlino driving skills… Rico might disagree.
