The Weston Shield 2025 is gearing up to be a thrilling tournament, and European XI is ready to make its mark. Previously named Team Europe, they fell short in 2024 against the British & Irish Knights (now British & Irish XI), losing the nine-match series 6-3. This time around, the squad looks more formidable, aiming to turn the tide and lift the trophy.

At the forefront of European XI is their Icon Player, Max O'Dowd who replaces Joe Burns after the former Australian Test cricketer pulled out due to personal reasons. Max is a familiar name in European cricket, having been a standout performer in the inaugural European Cricket League (ECL) in 2019. Representing V.O.C. Rotterdam, he was instrumental in their championship-winning campaign and was named the MVP of the tournament. His experience and success in the T10 format make him a perfect fit for the high-octane action of the Weston Shield.

Coach Corey Rutgers has picked a highly competitive squad, blending experience with exciting new talent. While only four players from the last edition—Sikander Zulfiqar, Khalid Ahmadi, Daniel Doyle Calle, and Shahid Afridi—return this year, the squad is bolstered by some of the top performers from ECN tournaments in recent years.

New additions such as Shariz Ahmed, Noah Croes, Ximus Du Plooy, and Sajid Afridi will add much-needed depth and firepower to the team. With players from seven different nations, the squad embodies the spirit of European cricket, showcasing the best talent from across the continent.

With a more balanced and experienced squad, European XI has a strong chance to claim the Weston Shield title this year. The team will be eager to prove themselves when they step onto the Cartama Oval from February 19-23.
