Super Kings seal ECS history in Malta – score 200 runs in 10 overs

ECS Records tumbled on Day 4 in Malta in a scarcely believable opener between Super Kings and Gozo. One of them was a remarkable achievement by Super Kings – the mammoth total of 200 runs in SKI’s 10 overs represents the highest ever team score in ECS history.

It soon became clear that the SKI batsmen were onto something after collecting 20 runs in their opening two overs. The third over produced a stunning 38 runs – more than the maximum possible in an over without any extras!

Bikram Arora, captain of the Malta national team and still in the blissful hangover of becoming a new father, kickstarted proceedings with a scintillating 21-ball 55, but it was Affy Khan that ultimately made 200 possible.

The ninth over yielded 35 runs for SKI with Affy Khan, known for his big-hitting skills, smashing three sixes and Amar Sharma adding another.

SKI smoked 20 runs off the last four balls including two sixes and two fours to post the highest score in ECS history, going past the previous best of 198/2 that belonged to both Gracia (Spain) and Kummerfelder Sportverein (Germany).

Affy Khan finished on 79 not out from 24 deliveries, scoring at a strike rate of 329.2. Remarkably, only a single over yielded less than 10 runs for SKI.

SKI also rounded off their supreme show with the bat with a ruthless bowling performance. SKI cleaned up Gozo for just six runs, the lowest score in ECS history and completed a win by 194 runs, comfortably the largest run margin of victory in ECS history.

Ashok Bishnoi’s six-wicket haul – a ridiculous 6/3 – naturally won him the Man of the Match award, but did not quite claim record ECS bowling figures. That record still stands with Steffan Gooch, who took 6/2 in the European Cricket Series Hungary last season.

Overall, the European Cricket Network (ECN) record team score remains a whopping 222-0 off 10 overs made by champions V.O.C. Rotterdam (Netherlands) against SG Findorff (Germany) in the ECL19 final.
