Episode 31 of European Cricket Stories focuses on one of the most respected figures in Dutch cricket. 🎙️
ECN Founder Daniel Weston sits down with Tim de Leede, who at the time of the interview was Coach of the Netherlands A squad at the European Cricket Championship, to reflect on a lifelong journey shaped by cricket.
Tim’s earliest memories of the game go back to being just six years old, trying to bat in his first ever match. Cricket was embedded in family life, with his older brothers and father playing the game and his mother regularly taking on scoring duties. Like many growing up in the Netherlands, street cricket played a big role in developing skills and passion for the sport.
Tim made his debut for the Dutch national team during the 1989 tour of Dubai, which served as preparation for the 1990s Cricket World Cup qualifiers. Years later, he became part of one of Dutch cricket’s most iconic moments at the 2003 World Cup in South Africa, famously dismissing Sachin Tendulkar.
The conversation also explores the Netherlands’ steady progress on the global stage, the strength of its development pathways and how the game continues to grow from strength to strength within the country.
New episodes of European Cricket Stories are released every Tuesday and Thursday, sharing the stories of the people who have shaped European cricket over generations.
