European Cricket Network broadcasts first ever womens cricket live from Italy

For the first time in the history of Italian cricket, you can follow the much-anticipated Italian Womens T20 Championship Final LIVE from the comfort of your armchair – thanks to the support of the European Cricket Network.

It will be the first ever womens cricket ever broadcast live from Italy.

“It’s an amazing moment for women’s cricket in Italy and in Europe,” said Fabio Marabini, President of the Italian Cricket Federation.

“This is just the start, next summer, provided all is fine with pandemic issues, we are targeting bilateral and trilateral cricket series among European countries and much more club cricket for our ladies.

“We won’t let them have boring weekends watching mens cricket on the sidelines, we want our ladies at the ground, making them into the brightest stars of our cricket.”

The Italian Womens T20 Championship was originally scheduled for November, but a second lockdown meant its postponement until the Spring.

Padova progressed on NRR from a tough group including local rivals Royal Padova and Lucca, with Roma coming through their COVID-19 affected group B with Kent Lanka and Neptunia 2000. Padova will be led by experienced skipper Kusinara Chathuri, an integral part of the successful Italy womens team that won a few European tournaments in the past.

Having won two titles in the past, Roma would appear strong favourites, boasting several players with national team experience, notably captain Kumudu Peddrick and bowler Dishani Samarawickrama.

The Italian Womens T20 Championship Final will be broadcast LIVE on the European Cricket Network's YouTube channel from the Roma Cricket Ground in the Italian capital.

And we are far from finito in Italy after the weekend. Following the great success of the two European Cricket Series Rome events in 2020, on Monday five weeks of European Cricket Series events in Italy start with the FanCode ECS Italy, Rome.

After Rome, we continue our 2021 Italian Job when we head to Bologna, Venice, Milan and Brescia.

Daniel Weston, European Cricket Network Founder said: “We are super excited for all the ladies playing this weekend, kick starting our action-packed cricket calendar in Italy and to take another step in promoting womens cricket in Europe.”
