Royal Roma had only previously managed to twice beat winless Kent Lanka in the group stages, with an overall 2-6 record enough to secure fourth spot and a semi-final spot against 2019 Italian double winners Asian Latina.
However, once in the knockout stages, Royal Roma never looked back, taking advantage of batting first in the crunch games with decisive contributions from Umar Shahzad and Vajrala Reddy in particular.
