FanCode ECS Germany Krefeld - Preview - All you need to know

FanCode ECS Germany Krefeld kicks off on Monday, with lots of new, exciting talent from Western Germany keen to showcase their skills on the grand European Cricket stage.

MSC Frankfurt have to be considered one of the favourites on account of their cricketing talent and tournament pedigree. In fact, the European Cricket Series Frankfurt champions are the only side featuring at the FanCode ECS Germany Krefeld to boast any previous ECS experience.

Dusseldorf Blackcaps are bound to be one of the teams to beat at FanCode ECS Germany Krefeld. Originally founded in 1990 by British Business Men's Club Düsseldorf (BBCD) before being renamed, the Blackcaps are led by current German national team captain Venkatraman Ganesh. Dusseldorf Blackcaps are a formidable outfit and have enjoyed a host of success over the last decade, winning eight state championships to accompany their crowning glory of the German national championship in 2017.

Koln CC will also be keen to stamp their authority on the competition. Twice Bundesliga champions in 2005 and 2012, Koln CC has also emerged victorious on 12 occasions in the past 18 years regionally and will fancy their chances of going all the way under the astute leadership of Dhruv Patel.

Koln Challengers were formed a year after their Koln CC’s last Bundesliga success and can boast less silverware than their more illustrious local rivals. However, Koln Challengers are not to be underestimated over the shorter format and will look to spring a surprise or two along the way.

Featuring Germany internationals Asad Mohammed and Sahir Naqash, Bonn Blue Star will be on many people’s shortlists for success too, especially if BBS repeat the winning formula from the T20 regional championship in 2020.

VfB Gelsenkirchen, formed only in 2018, are another relatively new, inexperienced team, especially in hard-ball cricket. That said, what was once a social group of refugees have evolved into a talented team ready to spring a surprise or two in hardball cricket.

Both Aachen Rising Stars and DJK SG Solingen have a host of talent in their ranks and it will be interesting to see if they can perform on the big stage when the ECS spotlight is zooming in. DSS will have to cope though without the services of their talented supremo Murali Prasad which make their task much tougher.

Bayer Uerdingen Boosters and Bayer Uerdingen Wolves are two new very teams that will play their games at the new German national performance centre in Krefeld. In the bigger picture, it could be that both the Boosters and Wolves will find themselves on a very steep learning curve in this tournament.
