Team Preview for Sparta 1888
Sparta come into this tournament as the hosts and will be keen to impress on their home turf. They have been in pretty good form in the Topklasse competition, winning four and losing two. Their record in T20s this season is even better – they are yet to be defeated in that form of the game.
Captain: Mudassar Bukhari
Main Wicketkeeper: Tim de Kok
Mudassar Bukhari is the captain and perhaps Sparta’s most explosive batsman. He knows how to clear the boundaries and is likely to bat in the number four position. He is also a useful bowler, expect him to deliver his two overs in this match and look to pick up a wicket or two.
Faisal Iqbal will bat number three and is likely to bowl a couple of overs of his tweakers. He will relish the short boundaries when he’s batting but I’m not so sure it will be as much fun when he’s at the bowling crease!
Vikramjit Singh is a talented batsman who can be thrown up the order in this format. With a top score in the Topklasse of 99 this season, he’ll he hoping to go one better at some point during this series.
Team Preview for Voorburg CC
Voorburg are a solid unit, with a record in the Topklasse this season of five wins and two losses. Led by the enigmatic Bas de Leede, they will hope to have the European Cricket Series trophy in their cabinet by the end of the week.
Captain: Bas de Leede
Main Wicketkeeper: Tobias Nota
Bas de Leede is a great cricketer to watch who I think will relish the opportunity to lead his side in the European Cricket Series. He will open the batting and look to attack from ball one. He can generate some pace with the ball in hand if he gets his rhythm right too!
Aryan Dutt will open the batting with his captain and is also a very attacking player. He is a versatile player who can also bowl some off spin in the middle overs.
Vivian Kingma will open the bowling. He has shown himself to be a wicket-taker, with 13 of them this year in the Topklasse, taken in an economical fashion. He can also provide some hitting in the middle order if he is required to do so.
Mr Maximo’s tip: VOORBURG CC
This first match promises to be a fantastic contest, with both teams having genuine claims to be the favourites. I leaned towards Voorburg with Bas de Leede to star, but this is realistically a 50/50 proposition. I think that these two teams, along with Excelsior 20 will all have a realistic chance of being champions this week in Capelle in our first ever ECS on Dutch soil. To find out who comes out on top, tune in to the European Cricket Network this Wednesday to Friday!
