The recently concluded ECS Malta proved to be yet another exhilarating chapter in European Cricket, delivering unmatched entertainment and record-breaking cricket action. The tournament witnessed an incredible display of skill and determination, with 20,144 runs scored, 1,012 wickets taken, 1,341 fours smashed, and 1,481 sixes launched into the Maltese skies.
The grand finale saw Msida Warriors locking horns with Edex Knights in a highly anticipated clash. Batting first, Msida Warriors put up a challenging total of 131 in their allotted 10 overs. Their batsmen displayed grit and flair, ensuring they had a defendable score in a high-pressure game.
Edex Knights began their chase in style, thanks to an explosive 86-run opening partnership that seemed to put them firmly in the driver’s seat. However, the Warriors roared back into the contest, dismantling the Knights' middle and lower order by picking up wickets at regular intervals. Despite their strong start, Edex Knights faltered in their pursuit, managing only 109 runs in 10 overs.
With this 22-run victory, Msida Warriors etched their name in ECS history by securing their maiden ECS title in Malta, a feat that will surely be remembered for years to come.
While Msida Warriors claimed the ultimate prize, it was Jagath Poorna of the Southern Crusaders who stole the show throughout the tournament. Named MVP of the tournament, Poorna showcased all-round brilliance, finishing as the leading run-scorer with a staggering 687 runs and the highest wicket-taker with 27 wickets. His dominance with both bat and ball was a key highlight of ECS Malta 2024.
