From their very first outing, Brno Rangers always looked on course to secure the last qualifying place for Finals Day in the Czech capital Prague next weekend.

Never in danger of tasting defeat, Rangers stayed unbeaten throughout the weekend, including a comfortable win in the final against the Brno Raiders.

In the final, Czech national team wicket keeper Ushan Gunathilake, so magnificent behind the stumps all weekend, caught the eye with the bat in a match winning partnership with Vikram Padigala. Dylan Steyn, showing glimpses of his namesake Dale, applied the long handle in a rapid 21 off just 11 balls to power the Rangers score to 84.

In reply, Raiders were never at the races against a miserly Rangers bowling line up, particularly after losing three wickets in five balls with the score on 19. Only the consistent Aamir Husain made double figures as the Rangers bowlers refused to serve up any gifts. Tripurari Kanhya Lal (2-4) and Naveed Ahmed (3-6) both returned astounding figures, but these paled into insignificance against Rahat Ali’s three wickets without conceding a run in the final.

Well played to the powerful Rangers. The best team won.

Raiders will take comfort from two successive wins against Brno Raptors to earn a place in the week 4 final. The first meeting in the final group game proved a real thriller with the finish coming down to the last ball as the Raiders prevailed by 3 runs. Raiders found the going easier in the Eliminator, effortlessly chasing down the target of 73 for no loss with 10 balls to spare.

Special mention must go to Moravian CC, a new team making their competitive debut.

Moravian always played the game with a smile on their face and can only improve for the experience. In fact, the whole weekend was played in great spirit, blessed by wonderful weather in beautiful Brno!
