ECN renew contract with Cartama Oval to continue hosting marquee events

European Cricket Network are pleased to announce their renewed agreement with the owner of the Cartama Oval, David Cooper to be able to continue to host the next 3 Men’s International T10 Cricket Tournaments here in Malaga.

 

This will include the next two European Cricket Championships in September this year and next, with the first starting Monday 25th September where 31 Nations will compete to become the champion nation of Europe.

 

In between both Championships, the European Cricket Network will also return with the ‘Champions League of Cricket’ - The European Cricket League - where the best clubs of each European nation will play over 4 weeks to establish the club champions - Planned for Monday 26th February 2024.

 

We can also reveal that work is currently underway on adding the first of its kind, Women’s Cricket Championship to the calendar where international female players can also play in their own international tournament. Once this inaugural tournament is confirmed the plan will be to host the event here in Cartama from mid-December.

 

European Cricket would like to thank David for his ongoing efforts on ensuring this ground remains the most desirable location to stage the platforms two flagship cricket events.

 

In turn it is important to note that the help of the local authorities, the Cartama Town hall and the Mayor, Mr. Jorge Gallardo and his team plus the support of the Junta de Andalucia and the department for Sport alongside the Director General Jose Maria Arrabal and his team have been and remain vital in our ability to remain in Cartama and we look forward to the next 18 months together and all being well beyond with more events from 2025.

 

The Mayor, Jorge Gallardo welcomed the news and stated he is pleased that Cartama remains the ideal location for European Cricket’s flagship events and that the relationship locally has contributed to the growth of the sport in Spain and across Europe.

 

He also thanked European Cricket for their contribution to the area and highlighted that these ECN events were open to the public and that people in Cartama and the Malaga area were welcome to come and see the action for themselves from September 25th when Spain would be playing as part of the action in Group A during the first 3 days of the ECC23 tournament.
