The Österreichischer Cricket Verband, also known as the Austrian Cricket Association (“ACA”) and the European Cricket League AG (“ECL”) have expanded their partnership to grow domestic, international, children’s and youth cricket faster than ever before.

Austrian cricket continues its development with an extended European Cricket Network partnership

Vienna, Austria - The Austrian Cricket Association (ACA) is excited to announce its continuing collaboration with the signing & formalisation of an Addendum Agreement with the ECL and European Cricket Network (ECN).

The partnership between ACA and ECN aims to develop and grow the sport of cricket in Austria and provide senior and junior players with the opportunities to develop their skills and love for the game.

Additional funding will now be provided to invest directly into youth cricket, the improvement of venues, plus increased funding for the hosting and participation in domestic and international matches for Men’s and Women’s cricket.

Mr. Muhammad Ashfaq, the Chairman of the ACA said, "ACA is thrilled to continue our collaboration with the European Cricket Network (ECN) through a new Addendum Agreement This partnership is a major milestone in developing cricket in Austria. Together with ECN, we aim to ignite a love for cricket, inspire players of all ages, and make cricket a significantly more popular sport in Austria.”

Along with their participation in the European Cricket League, the Champions League of European cricket, Austria will also participate in Group D of the European Cricket Championship, the Euro’s of cricket, in September this year in Cartama, Spain.

Austria has a prominent and growing cricket culture, with the Men’s national team winning the sub regional qualifier for the T20 world cup last year. Today, the ACA is more motivated than ever to ensure that cricket becomes widely played across the nation.

The European Cricket Series Austria started on May 8th, 2023, and will run until May 19th. On the 20th and 21st of May the T10 European Cricket Internationals between Austria, Czech Republic and Hungary will take place, with both events to be held in Seebarn, Austria.

Daniel Weston, founder of the ECN commented, “Austria has played a special role in the inspiration and thought process around the creation of the European Cricket Network for two reasons. Firstly, when I was playing for Munich Cricket Club, we would tour to Vienna to play 6 a side-8 over cricket, which I loved as a short form of the game which helped to motivate my love for “ultra-short” forms of cricket. Secondly, simply the enjoyment of touring to other European countries and cultures to play the game with my teammates and meet new opponents to enjoy playing against. Austria is rich in history and culture and has a fantastic community of passionate cricketers across Austria which is an honour to partner with to help grow further and faster."

The ongoing partnership will involve joint initiatives such as organisation of senior international & domestic tournaments, and youth development programmes. It will also aim to create awareness about cricket as a sport and inspire more adults and children to take up the sport.
