Only a few months ago, the first edition of the European Cricket League (ECL) went into legend after famously unearthing a new internet sensation and cricketing superstar in the shape of Cluj Cricket Club’s Pavel Florin.
After breaking the internet at ECL19 and winning the hearts of cricket lovers worldwide, including the great Australian Shane Warne, Pavel was set to fulfill his lifetime dream of playing cricket in Australia at the invitation of Surrey Hills Cricket Club in Melbourne.
Unfortunately, Pavel’s dream is on ice. The governmental department of Home Affairs in Australia has twice denied Pavel’s Visa application.
“I’m very disappointed,” Pavel said.
“It was rejected because they did not believe that I have a “genuine intention to visit Australia temporarily for tourism purposes,” and also wrote that I have “little incentive to return to your home country.”
“However, I do have incentive to return to my home country, i.e. Romania, as I will be playing for Cluj Cricket Club at ECL20,” Pavel added.
From everyone here at the European Cricket League, we urge the Australian government to reconsider and allow Pavel the chance to fulfill his cricketing dream.
