Kookaburra, the world’s most famous cricket ball manufacturer, have joined forces with the European Cricket League (“ECL”), the new Champions League of cricket in Europe, to take the next step in promoting the game across the continent.

Kookaburra has become the “Official Ball & Kit Partner” of the ECL, in a 3-year partnership, which will see the Kookaburra “Regulation” white ball as the official match ball for all 17 matches.

Additionally, all participating teams will also be kitted out in Kookaburra Pads and Helmets in custom club colours, together with providing the official stumps, scorebooks and accessories for the League, which launches on  July 29, 30 and 31, 2019 from La Manga Club, Spain.

“It is with great pride and honour to have Kookaburra as an official ball & kit partner, they are the brand I always used, admired and been excited by at the start of every cricket season. The ECL is going to bring Cricket to Europe like never before, tapping into new audiences, so whilst we want to create fresh sporting stories, we are very excited to work with Kookaburra as a company so rich in the history of the game.”, says Daniel Weston, founder of the European Cricket League.

Played in a T10 format, ECL 19 will feature the domestic champions of Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania, Russia and Spain, competing for the chance to be crowned as Continental Europe club cricket’s  ‘Kings of Europe’.

Teams will be split into two groups of four with matches being played on a round-robin basis, with the top two from each progressing to contest the semi-finals and final. All matches will be broadcasted and streamed live around  the world.

Stuart Waterton, UK Brand Manager at Kookaburra said, “We pride ourselves in being at the forefront of cricket innovation and ahead of the curve as the game evolves. We see the European Cricket League, as the new Champions  League of Cricket in Europe, as a new and exciting way to grow the game, take it to an even wider audience & foster the future of the game that we all love.”

The first league will be limited to eight champion clubs from official ICC member federations, but there is a roadmap to increase the number of qualified teams in the coming years.

“We are always looking to grow our cricketing community. Daniel and I have worked together for several years as a kit supplier to cricketers in Germany when Daniel was running the digital live streaming platform German Cricket  TV. The growth of the game in Germany in recent years has been spectacular. So now with the launch of the ECL and widespread promotion and awareness of cricket in Europe, we are excited at further growth to come for the game in places where traditionally cricket  has crept under the radar”, said Kookaburra UK Social Media & Digital Manager , Julie Morehen.
