REPORT: American University of Malta seal dramatic first win while Knights CC remain unbeaten at European Cricket Series Malta

Leaders Knights CC twice got the better of Marsa CC to maintain their unbeaten record.

In a genuine run fest to start the second week of action, Marsa marched to an impressive 138 with Nowell Khosla (50*) and Fanyan Mughal (61*) both impressing in an unbroken partnership. However, Samuel Mangat Stanislaus was truly in inspired form with 88 not out as the Knights cantered to the target with two balls to spare.

Knights batted first in their next meeting with Stanislaus (47) and Basil George (73*) piling up 122 for the first wicket. In reply, Marsa never managed to threaten, despite handy contributions from Niraj Khanna (24), skipper Haroon Mughal (27*) and Sumair Khan (21*).

American University of Malta approached their two meetings with Msida Warriors still in search of their first win. And their first clash went true to form after Msida Warriors amassed 103 with Justin George (46) and skipper Rahul Nair (29) the main contributors. After a slow start, the University side fell 31 runs short with skipper Jitesh Kumar Patel (c) batting through with 34 off 33 balls.

But American University of Malta turned the tables on the Warriors in their next meeting, sealing a dramatic last over win.

Shubham Patel and Zoheb Malek both took two wickets to help restrict the Warriors to ten runs less despite Rahul Nair’s rapid 50 off 20 balls. Chasing 94, the University got off to a brisk start this time around. Despite losing wickets regularly, including three in the final over, University scraped home off the final ball to much delight amongst the keen students.
