REPORT: Finals Day – Week 1 – Bohemian Rhapsody at ECN Czech Super Series

Buoyant Bohemian CC proved worthy winners of Group 1 in an exciting opening weekend of the ECN Czech Super Series in Prague, Czech Republic.

After rain seriously intervened on Sunday, the much-awaited Final pitted unbeaten Bohemian against Prague CC Kings – a meeting of two sides who had dished up the game of the tournament on the previous evening.

Inserted, Bohemians definitely looked to be struggling at 35-6 with 21 balls remaining and Prague Kings very much in pole position. However, with the elements again becoming a factor, some lusty late hitting from Zahid Mahmood (20 off 10) and skipper Javed Iqbal took Bohemians up to a challenging 75.

Joyous Bohemian CC skipper Javed Iqbal

In the field, Bohemian visibly defended for their lives and seemed to grab every vital catch that came in the vicinity. Getting rid of Prague Kings’ dangerman “The Beast” Sudesh Roy Dias Wickramasekara early certainly put a noticeable spring into the Bohemian step as well. After another short break due to the threat of thunder and lightning, Prague CC Kings promptly subsided to 54-9 in their 10 overs, with only the top order reaching double figures.

With the impressive victory, Bohemian CC maintain their 100 per cent record and are worthy winners of Group 1, advancing to ECN Czech Super Series Finals Day weekend in the Czech capital Prague on July 11 & 12.

Earlier in the day, the first two games were lost due to heavy and persistent rain in Prague.

Persistent Precipitation in Prague

After six hours of watching the rain covers twitch from the safety of an undercover tent, the Eliminator eventually beckoned with Prague Barbarians Visigoths taking on Prague CC Kings in mid-afternoon.

In a match reduced to 8 over per side, the Prague Barbarians Visigoths posted 58-3 in an innings which never really got going.

BEAST MODE – World Record Holder “The Beast” - Sudesh Roy Dias Wickramasekara

Buoyed by a fantastic innings of 43 off 17 balls from the “The Beast” Sudesh Roy Dias Wickramasekara - scorer of the fastest-ever T20i century in 35 balls -Prague CC Kings leisurely chased down with ease with 17 balls to spare by 9 wickets.

This easy win seemed to provide some serious momentum for Prague CC Kings going into the final. However, cue another Bohemian Rhapsody with cricket the winner in the ECN Czech Super Series!
