REPORT: Match 1 - Pinatar Pirates vs Sporting Alfas – Dream11 European Cricket Series Alicante

In very windy conditions for the much-anticipated opening match of the Dream11 European Cricket Series Alicante, Sporting Alfas won the toss on home soil and chose to insert the Pinatar Pirates. Pinatar made a bright start racking up 26 from the first two overs.

But Christian Munoz brought the Alfas back into the game, taking two wickets in successive balls in his opening over. Spain’s national team skipper also showed his safe hands in the field with a well-judged catch from a steepler in the gale-force wind.

For Pinatar, there were double figure contributions for Gopi Singh, Jassie Jagdeep Singh, Kuldeep Lal and Sukhpal “Sukhi” Singh but their total of 87 always looked way short of a challenging score.

Chasing 88 to win, Sporting Alfas coasted to victory hitting 58 in the opening three powerplay overs. Openers Eddie Ballard (24 off 12 balls) and captain Faran Afzal (45 off 22 balls) were supremely comfortable in the chase as Sporting Alfas romped to their target in 6.1 overs.
