European Cricket Network has LIVE broadcast cricket from all across Europe this year with over 700 matches in 20 countries. In our annual review, we take a look back at the special memories from a historic year for European Cricket.
A host of new international records were broken as the European Cricket Network broadcast the first women's International cricket since COVID-19 with the German “Golden Eagles” taking on Austria Fire. All five T20I matches were streamed LIVE in August on the European Cricket Network with hundreds of thousands of excited viewers tuning in from all over the world.
Opener Janet Ronalds smashed Germany’s first ever T20i century with an unbeaten 105 from 74 balls. In tandem with the talented Christina Gough, who also took an undefeated route 66 as The German ‘Golden Eagles’ racked up 191 for no loss against Austria in their 20 overs. The mammoth 191-run first-wicket partnership was the fourth highest in women’s T20I history and set a record for the highest total in a women’s T20i where no wicket was lost during the innings.
Talented young spinner, Emma Bargna, aged just 15 at the time, captured Germany's first ever T20i five wicket haul in the very same game as opener Janet Ronalds completed Germany’s first ever T20i century. Emma, a product of the Bayerische Cricket Akademie in Munich, took 5-9 in four overs to send the Austrians spinning to a comprehensive defeat.
Not to be outdone, bowler Anne Bierwisch completed Germany's first ever T20i hat-trick, signalling a horrific Austrian collapse.
