After four intense and highly competitive matches at the beautiful Happy Valley Cricket Ground in Limassol, Finland emerged as winners of the ECN Cyprus-Finland T20I series, taking the trophy with an impressive comeback performance after losing the opening match.
Cyprus started the series strongly, defeating Finland by 26 runs in the opener and immediately setting the tone for what looked to be a fiercely balanced contest between two sides eager to prove themselves on the European stage. But from that point onwards, the Finnish Bears responded with authority, adapting quickly to conditions and finding another level across the remaining fixtures. Finland went on to win the final three matches of the series, closing it out emphatically with a 38-run victory in the final game to secure a deserved 3-1 triumph.
The series itself showcased exactly why international cricket in Europe continues to grow in quality and intensity. Happy Valley produced not only excellent cricket but also some spectacular moments in the field, with outstanding catches from both teams throughout the event helping elevate the standard of the contest. Batters from both sides also delivered dominant performances, with momentum swinging rapidly from session to session over the two days in Limassol.
For Finland, Faraaz Abbas led the charge with the bat, scoring 109 runs across the series and consistently giving his side strong platforms. Taranjit Singh once again proved why he remains one of the most exciting players in European cricket, striking at 130.77 and bringing his trademark energy and intent every time he stepped onto the field. He continues to be a player spectators simply love watching, capable of shifting momentum instantly through both attitude and execution.
Cyprus captain Alexander Senn once again demonstrated leadership from the front, finishing unbeaten on 57 in one of the standout innings of the series and accumulating 97 runs overall. Alongside him, Adam Senn delivered one of the most complete all-round performances of the tournament, scoring 92 runs while also claiming 8 wickets for Cyprus across the four matches.
With the ball, Finland’s attack ultimately proved decisive. Amjad Sher was exceptional throughout the series, finishing with 9 wickets and maintaining a superb economy rate of just 4.2 in a format where control is often difficult to sustain. Teammate Hammadullah Shinwari produced the bowling figures of the tournament, tearing through the opposition with an outstanding spell of 5/7.
Beyond the results and statistics, this series once again highlighted the importance of the people driving cricket forward across Europe. Huge thanks go to the Cyprus Cricket Federation for hosting the event with professionalism, passion and genuine warmth throughout the week. The Cyprus side competed fiercely on the field while remaining absolute gentlemen off it, embodying the spirit of the European game.
Special recognition must go to Muhammad Husain, one of the most passionate and dedicated people involved in cricket development in Cyprus. His work, leadership and relentless commitment to growing the sport continue to have a major impact on cricket in the region, and it is always a pleasure for ECN to work alongside someone who cares so deeply about building the game the right way.
Thanks also go to Andrew Armitage and the Finnish Bears setup for helping deliver a smooth, highly competitive and enjoyable international series.
The ECN calendar now moves onwards to Czechia, where the two-division tournament begins in Prague on 17 May with the start of the Challenger Division.
