REPORT: Knights CC remain unbeaten as Overseas get off the mark at European Cricket Series Malta

Leaders Knights CC twice got the better of Southern Crusaders to maintain their unbeaten record.

In a genuine run fest to start the day, Knights racked up an imposing 130 thanks to the belligerent hitting of Basil George (58 off 23 balls). In reply, Southern Crusaders put up sturdy resistance but closed 19 runs short with Gopal Thakur again top scoring with 54 off 22 balls.

It proved a similar tale in the second meeting of the day with Knights again posting an insurmountable score with Samuel Mangat Stanislaus (41*) and Basil George (27) again the main contributors on their way to 112. In reply, Southern Crusaders fell 20 runs short with Justin Shaju and Sujesh Appu each taking two wickets.

In the day’s other action, Overseas got off the mark with two victories over American University of Malta, one slightly more dramatic than the other.

Andy Naudi starred for Overseas with 53 off 21 balls on their way to 108. The University students fell 25 runs short, despite another nice hand from Zoheb Malek (43).

Next up, University set a challenging target of 94. In reply, Naudi again top scored for Overseas with 29 ably supported by Charl Kleinepunte (26). Skipper Jitesh Kumar Patel took two wickets for the Students to cause a mini-collapse. With five needed for victory, David Marks mullered a six over mid-wicket to dramatically snatch victory off the final ball.
