PREVIEW: MATCH 1 – RC Dresden v USG Chemnitz – European Cricket Series Dresden

Tune in to the live action Monday from 9am CEST * 8am UK * 7am GMT * 12:30pm IST from the Ostrapark ground in Dresden.

Team Preview for RC Dresden

RC Dresden have had some good form in T20 cricket, winning five of their seven matches this season. The European Cricket Series is another proposition though, and they face a tough test against USG Chemnitz first up on Monday morning.

Captain: Syed Waqar Hussain

Main Wicketkeeper: Waqas Khalil

Key Players:

Gulzar Rasool can be explosive at the top of the order. Built to hit sixes, he will relish the shorter boundaries employed at the ECS.

Sandeep Kamboj is a very experienced campaigner, having played for Germany as well as plying his trade at RC Dresden for ten seasons. He can score very quickly once he gets going.

Azam Ali Rajput is a very smart cricketer. The left-hander will adapt to the situation and also provide some left arm orthodox bowling in the middle overs.

Syed Waqar Hussain will lead the side and be keen to avenge the recent loss to USG Chemnitz. He is an all-round talent and has been in good form recently. He hits the ball hard and can provides some useful medium fast bowling.

Team Preview for USG Chemnitz

USG Chemnitz are 7-1 in the ODCV T20 competition this year so have every reason to be confident going into the European Cricket Series. With four matches on Day 1, they have no time to find their feet and will want to open the tournament with a victory.

Captain: Rajesh Nagaraja

Main Wicketkeeper: Sandeep Shivalingegowda

Key Players:

Rajesh Nagaraja is a good hitter and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him open in the T10 format. He is their leading six hitter this season and can really give it a thump. He also offers some useful off spin should he choose to bring himself on for an over or two.

Sandeep Shivalingegowda will be stationed behind the wickets and has an important job to do for his team. He will likely bat in the pivotal number three position and is the sort of player they can build an innings around.

Abdulsamad Stanikzai will open the innings and is potentially explosive. He may also take the new ball for his team and is their leading wicket taker in T20 cricket this season.

Adith Narayanan is a solid left arm seamer with a clever change of pace. That kind of variation invariably comes in useful to keep batsmen off balance in the ECS.

Mr Maximo’s tip: RC DRESDEN

What a great clash to start the European Cricket Series Dresden! These two played a very close contest recently in the ODCV T20 competition, with USG Chemnitz taking a close one 137-133. In a game that could go either way, both teams have players who will love the short boundaries and fast pace of the ECS. I’m tipping RC Dresden in a close, high-scoring match.
