Team Preview for Olten CC

Olten CC have gone through the preliminary matches as the only undefeated team, and thoroughly deserve to be favourites to take out the title.  Their only close call came in a second-last ball thriller with Cossonay.  Will they storm to the championship, or is there a twist in their tale?

Captain: Ali Nayyer

Main Wicket-Keeper: Mohamed Shahid

Key Players:

Yasotharan Thirnavukarasu is the leading run-scorer in the tournament with 202 runs at a strike rate of 204.  He also leads amount of sixes hit with an astounding 22 runs in maximos.  Can he keep that form up in the games that count?

Mohamed Shahid has been reliable company at the top of the order, with 136 runs as well as providing much encouragement from behind the stumps.  Shahid and opening partner Thirnavukarasu have accounted for over 60% of the runs scored by Olten batsmen.  They are too big to fail – if they do then an upset could be in the works.

Ali Nayyer has the knack of bringing himself on at the right time, capturing 5 wickets for the week.  How he manages his troops will be a critical factor in this all important semi-final.

Team Preview for Cossonay CC

Cossonay secured their place in the final four with a win in the final preliminary match against Winterthur.  Their form has been a little inconsistent, although they have a reputation as giant killers for toppling Zurich Nomads and pushing Olten to the limit.  Can it click for them on Finals Friday?

Captain: Andrew Ryan

Main Wicket-Keeper: Waseem Javaid

Key Players:

Jai Sinh has been a revelation at the top of the order.  He now leads their run scoring with 178, but is coming off a golden duck last innings.

Aidan Andrews is a class player but at times has failed to fire at the rate required.  He can hit the ball a long way and can swing the ball prodigiously with his medium pacers.  Will he be the mailman for Cossonay and deliver on Finals Friday?

Ashwin Vinod has picked up 5 wickets during the week and been a good change of pace.  Can he upset the rhythm of the Olten juggernaut?

Mr Maximo tip: OLTEN CC

This is by no means a foregone conclusion.  We saw fourth topple first in last week’s Dream11 European Cricket Series Stockholm, and I wouldn’t put it past Cossonay to pull off an upset here.  But I can’t possibly tip against the undefeated Olten.  They have the added benefit of a day’s rest while Cossonay are coming off a gruelling three games on Thursday.  Olten to blast a big total on the way to the final.
