The first semi of the day saw Polizeisportverein Hann. Münden (PSV) pitted against Kummerfelder Sportverein (KSV). PSV were not involved in the action the previous day, but had finished top of the standings with four wins from five. PSV had picked up a surprise win against KSV in the opening game of the tournament on Monday, bundling the hosts out for a paltry 53.

However, in this crunch semi-final, a fully motivated KSV outfit assumed control by taking early wickets, including centurion Adeel Ahmad for a duck. Asad Sangari excelled at the top of the order with a 43 off 21, before he was caught by the excellent Sharanya Sadarangani behind the stumps, one of two catches for the first ever female cricketer at the European Cricket Series. PSV subsided to 88, inexcusably bowled out with two balls remaining. Enjoying a turnaround in fortunes, Izatullah Dawlatzai bagged 3 more scalps, along with Sultan Sherzad Shah and Musaddiq Ahmad to hinder PSV’s progress.

Safe hands Sharanya

In reply, KSV were always ahead of the scoring rate with Shoaib Azam Khan (25) and Mussaddiq Ahmad (19) providing a blistering start. Skipper Dawlatzai saw his side home with 11 balls to spare to seal a place in the final in their own backyard.

In the second semi, MTV bats Mohammad Faruq Arabzai (29) and Prashanth Potharlanka (25) both chipped in and wicketkeeper Brijesh Prajapati blasted three sixes in his 20 off only 6 balls to motor the innings to a competitive 105. Wily Rashad Mehmood was again the pick of the bowlers with 2-8 off his allocation. On the chase, things were not looking too fancy for Findorff after losing skip Hamid Wardak and then Aziz Dawodzy for a golden duck. Saidul Islam’s 2-18 threatened to put the cat amongst the pigeons. But Mehmood and Ammar Khalid (40 off 17) regrouped and Farooq Amirie blazed 23 off just six balls to apply the finishing touches just as the rain was starting to fall a little heavier in Northern Germany.

So, the dream final in German cricket awaits with ECL19 Runners-up SG Findorff meeting the hosts and Bundesliga 50 over champions Kummerfelder Sport Verein.
