PREVIEW: MATCH 16 – Spånga United CC vs Stockholm Tigers – Dream11 European Cricket Series Botkyrka Stockholm

Tune in to the live action Thursday from 9am CEST * 8am UK * 7am GMT * 12:30pm IST from the Karsby Cricket Center ground in Stockholm, Sweden.

Team Preview for Spånga United CC

Spånga United CC have been boosted by the services of veteran Faisal Azeem for this series, but they have still come up empty handed in their two matches so far.  With a game in hand on the opposition, it is time to make their run to a Friday appearance.

Captain: Faisal Azeem

Main Wicket-Keeper: Thilina Warnakulasuriya

Key Players:

Faisal Azeem is a veteran of the Swedish scene, and a very popular player in these parts.  He has scored 65 runs off only 34 balls in the two innings so far, and has also been effective with the ball.  Spånga will no doubt be relying on him to perform again.

Tasal Saddiqi is likely to open the batting with Faisal, and scored a confidence-boosting 23 in his second attempt, after going for a duck in their first match.  He could be the run-scoring support the captain needs.

Janaka Johannes is a big-hitting middle order batsman who can open the bowling if required.

Fayaz Ali should take the new ball, and has shown he can also contribute with the bat down the order, steering his team to a competitive total of 89 on Monday with his unbeaten 24 off 21 balls after Spånga had fallen to 56 for 6.

Team Preview for Stockholm Tigers

Stockholm Tigers started the tournament with a heavy loss to Nacka CC, but seemed to get back on track with a win against Alby Zalmi U23.  A lacklustre batting performance in most recent match cost them, so they come into this game needing to win and win handsomely.

Captain: Faruk Ahmed

Main Wicket-Keeper: Humayun Kabir

Key Players:

Ahmed Kawser has been explosive with bat in hand, scoring 75 off 36 balls in the tournament without being dismissed, with 42 of those runs coming in maximos!  He has been off-target with the ball at times though, and will want to correct this aspect of his game.

Raz Imtiaz put in a Jekyll and Hyde performance at the top of the order on Tuesday, compiling a classy 44 off 24 balls in their first match, before stumbling to 12 off 15 in the very next match.  It will be very interesting to see which Imtiaz shows up for the Tigers’ final group match.

Faruk Ahmed has led the side admirably.  The left-hander will probably open the innings and not give too much away in his two overs of bowling.

Akash Islam is expected to return after a minor ankle injury in his last appearance.  If he does, he can be expected to open the bowling.

Mr Maximo’s tip: Spånga United CC

I think that Stockholm Tigers have a better team on paper, but I am non-plussed with the inconsistency in their performance to date.  Spånga have been close to a win, and have it all to play for on Thursday with a game in hand on the other teams.  For that reason, I am tipping Spånga to pull of an upset!
