Going into this game following four straight defeats, the Intellectuals were intent on salvaging pride against Levante, who knew their last four hopes would be seriously jeopardized with a heavy defeat.
Batting first, the Intellectuals got off to a bright start with Ismail (31 off 22) and Usman Baig (30 off 19) sharing a memorable 70 opening partnership. Nadeem Muhammad brutalised 39 off 11 balls as the Intellectuals amassed a very healthy 121, their highest score of the competition by some margin. Levante’s Imtiaz Ullah prized out three wickets but these came at a costly 38.
In reply, again looking to complete the highest successful run chase at the Dream11 European Cricket Series Alicante, Levante struggled to get going in the early overs. Ismail and Usman Baig shared wickets to put the Intellectuals heavily in the ascendancy. Furqan Zameer batted throughout the innings and got Levante home from a very perilous position, finishing with a composed 48 off 30 balls, while Zain Ellahi gave the innings much-needed impetus with a brutal 45 off 19 before being run out
However, despite slipping to another defeat, the Intellectuals can be proud of their efforts. Levante live to fight another day and qualify in third place as it proved close, but no cigar, for the game Intellectuals.
