CHAMPIONS! Madrid United make their mark at Dream11 European Cricket Series Alicante

CHAMPIONES! CHAMPIONES! Olé, Olé, Olé! CHAMPIONES! CHAMPIONES! Olé, Olé, Olé!

Madrid United won the inaugural Dream11 European Cricket Series event by comprehensively beating the Pinatar Pirates by nine wickets.

On paper these two were evenly-matched as the first meeting between the two sides in the group stages ended in a narrow eight run victory for Madrid United. But in the crunch final with the Dream11 European Cricket Series Alicante trophy on the line, the capital-city side coasted to victory in a procession.

Batting first after winning the toss, Pinatar Pirates racked up a promising opening partnership of 70 off 7 overs. However, Madrid United all-rounder Qadar Nawaz (2-11) took two wickets in successive balls to turn the tide, as Pinatar eventually lost three batsmen in a horrid eighth over following a comical run out.

Before departing in the final over, Kuldeep Lal was again the glue in the innings with 46 off 33 balls, but the impressive Spanish international all-rounder could not find the fence as consummately as he had in previous innings.

But even with light failing on a cloudy Spring evening in Spain, Pinatar’s paltry total of 87, never looked competitive against a motivated Madrid United outfit.
