The new field at Vinor Cricket Ground in Prague, a venue for the ECN Czech Super Series, will be named in honour of the recently departed Scott Page, a genuine legend of cricket in the Czech Republic, the Českomoravský Kriketový Svaz (Czech Cricket Union) has announced.
Scott Page tragically passed away in a work accident on April 24. Originally from Australia, Scott started playing at Prague Cricket Club in 1997, the very first team in the country, before representing Bohemians for many years. He played for the Czech Republic in numerous ICC tournaments, winning a total of 22 international caps, making his last appearance at the 2019 Central European Cup at Vinor Cricket Ground in Prague - the Czech Republic’s leading cricketing facility, where he later became the head groundsman.
“The Scott Page Field” will make its bow as part of the ECN Czech Super Series, and will be opened in an official ceremony just prior to the first game at 10:00am (CEST) on June 13.
“We are currently collecting old cricket bats that will be used to make a memorial bench that will be placed next to the field in Scott’s honour,” said Terry O'Connor, COO of Czech Cricket.
A genuinely, larger than life character, Scott was the driving force in forming Velvary CC, sourcing and building his own ground, typical of his incredible spirit, drive and passion for cricket in the Czech Republic.
Furthermore, Scott was an enthusiastic coach at junior level, helping out with schools’ cricket for well over a decade, as well as coaching weekend kids cricket in the park.
There will be a public memorial service and celebration of Scott’s life next Saturday June 6 from midday at Obora Hvězda, Vypich in Prague 6.
“The Scott Page Field” will be the venue for the opening week, week three and the Finals Weekend of the inaugural ECN Czech Super Series.
The ECN Czech Super Series is a new, exciting T10 competition with a total of 40 high-octane T10 matches in the Czech Republic, featuring 16 teams in a series of four tournaments. The winners of each series will advance to a Finals weekend in the Czech capital Prague on July 11 & 12.
Every match of the ECN Czech Super Series from June 13 will be streamed worldwide via the European Cricket Network and on FanCode in India - a multi-sport aggregator platform, from the house of Dream Sports for the Indian Sub-Continent.
