European Cricket League (“ECL”) is the Champions League of European cricket. Founded by Daniel Weston, Roger Feiner, Frank Leenders and Thomas Klooz and hailed as a cricketing equivalent of the UEFA Champions League, the second-staging - ECL21 - will be played in May and June in Spain.
GROUP A: Swardeston - England, Brescia - Italy, FCA 04 Darmstadt - Germany, Minhaj / La Manga - Spain, Dreux - France
May 31 - June 4
Group A dishes up a genuine sporting classic as English hopes Swardeston face Darmstadt of Germany. Of course, Darmstadt will hope to go one better than Germany’s ECL19 representatives, SG Findorff, who finished runners-up to V.O.C. Rotterdam.
While Swardeston will be strong favourites to take top billing in Group A, the English champions would be wise not to underestimate the rest of the group. Italy’s finest Brescia completed the treble of T20, Coppa Italia and Supercoppa, while either Minhaj or La Manga will enjoy the benefit of home advantage in Spain. French champions Dreux caught the eye at ECL19 with Ahmad Nabi making history by blasting the first-ever ECL century.
Reigning Kings V.O.C. Rotterdam from the Netherlands automatically qualify for Finals Week, accompanied by a trio of group winners and highest net run rate (NRR) second place finisher from the opening three weeks.
