European Cricket League (ECL) is proud to announce that Luxembourg Cricket Federation has signed a long-term partnership ensuring that Luxembourg domestic champion club in 2021 will be invited to ECL22 - the Champions League of European cricket.
The second staging of the European Cricket League - ECL22 – will feature 30 Champion clubs from across Europe including England, Scotland and Ireland, over seven weeks at Malaga’s Cartama Oval, with six weeks of group matches from February 7, 2022 and culminating in a Finals week from March 21-25.
The first cricket match in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg took place in 1973, with the first club, Optimists Cricket Club formed three years later. Luxembourg club teams have featured in the Belgian League ever since 1991. The Luxembourg Cricket Federation (LCF) was formed in 1994 with three clubs and became an ICC Affiliate Member four years later.
“The passion, dedication and expertise that Steve Evans and his team at the Luxembourg Cricket Federation have brought to European cricket in recent years has been clear to see. Of course, we witnessed that for ourselves at first hand the Luxembourg national team’s passionate displays in the European Cricket Championship,” said Daniel Weston, Founder of the European Cricket League.

I am so excited about where they will take cricket in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in years to come, and to also see the impact of the ECL on their domestic cricket in the coming seasons,” said Daniel Weston, Founder of the European Cricket League.

We are happy to start our journey with Daniel and his team. During our negotiations we were impressed by their professionalism and enthusiasm for the game, which gives us strong confidence in the success of the venture.

We as the LCF Board will do all in our power to use this cooperation to boost domestic participation and to map out a clear future path for the younger generation of cricketers, hopefully attracting more and more native Luxembourgers to the game."

Following the postponement of ECL20 and ECL21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the second staging of the European Cricket League - ECL22- featuring 30 Champion clubs from across Europe will take place over six weeks at Malaga’s Cartama Oval, starting with five weeks of group matches from February 7, 2022 and culminating in a Finals week from March 14-18.
