REPORT: Punjab Lions power on as Nicosia Tigers and Cyprus Moufflons also clinch wins at 2020 CCA BAO Financial T20 Cup – Cyprus

On a roasting, but blustery day in Limassol, Nicosia Tigers got off the mark with their first win against Amdocs. Batting first, Tigers recovered from losing two wickets in the opening over to post 178. Sakhawat Hossain top scored with 40 off 25, while Roman Mazumder racked up 36 from 18. Saurabh Panghal was the pick of the bowlers with 2-25. In reply, Amdocs struggled to keep pace with the asking rate and the run out of top scorer Gaurav Sagwan with 13 balls remaining, extinguished any realistic hope of victory.

Despite a blistering start of 47 in three overs, with Gurpartrap Singh going ballistic for 41 off 18 balls, unbeaten Punjab Lions subsided to 136 in 15.1 overs as Ruwan Manawasingha (3-27) and Kamal Raiz (5-24) ran through the normally potent Punjab batting line up.

Chamal Sadun held the Limassol Sri Lanka Lions innings together with 43 off 36, but Kulwinder Singh pegged back the scoring rate with a couple of quick wickets. After Sadun’s dismissal, Limassol Sri Lanka Lions limped along and finished 14 runs short. With the battling win, Punjab Lions kept their 100 percent record in tact with four wins from four, while Limassol Sri Lanka Lions slipped to their first defeat.

In the final game of the day, Cyprus Moufflons returned to winning ways with a fine victory over CTL Eurocollege. Amandeep Singh with 61 at the top of the order and Rajasekhar Poluri gave the innings real momentum towards the end with 45 off 21 balls as the College cranked up the scoring to a total of 181. Only the dependable Ravi Kumar was able to put a brake on the scoring rate with a couple of wickets.

Mehran Khan Cyprus Centurion

In reply, Moufflons opener Mehran Khan had everything under control with a perfectly time chased, racking up an unbeaten 115 off 62, taking his side to victory with seven balls to spare.
