RECAP – DAY 1 – FanCode ECS Malta

FanCode ECS Malta provides an opportunity for ten leading Maltese teams to showcase their skills on the magnificent island of Malta, contesting 48 games over 12 days. Every game will be live streamed worldwide on the European Cricket Network and on FanCode - a multi-sport aggregator platform, from the house of Dream Sports for the Indian Sub-Continent.

American University of Malta began proceedings in the FanCode ECS Malta in style, winning their opening match against Royal Strikers by a mammoth 72 runs. Darshan Patankar dished up an entertaining unbeaten 50 from just 23 deliveries, including four fours and four sixes. In reply, not a single Royal Strikers batsman managed to reach double figures as both Darshanik Gohil and Shubh Patel picked up three wickets each. Tarak Shah chipped in with another couple of wickets as well.

In a double-header, American University of Malta comfortably extended their winning streak against Royal Strikers by seven wickets and with 14 balls to spare. This time around, RST batted first but the AUM bowlers put in another excellent shift to restrict the batsmen to a paltry 69 in 10 overs. On the chase, Saneesh Kumar led the way with the bat with an unbeaten 41 off just 22 balls with five fours and a couple of sixes.

Atlas UTC Knights were asked to bat first in the third match of the day and thanks to Samuel Stanislaus' 19-ball 24, posted 91 runs on the board. Jojo Thomas was the most successful bowler for Southern Crusaders with three wickets. Ryan Bastianz led the run-chase for SOC with his knock of 34 runs and Bilal Khan's 26 not out from 11 balls took them very close to the target. Atlas UTC Knights ended up winning the match on a dramatic Golden Ball finish with SOC just falling short.

Atlas UTC Knights picked up their second win of the day against Southern Crusaders, racking up 100 runs in the first innings with Samuel Stanislaus and Justin Shaju the top-scorers. Stanislaus batted at a rapid strike rate of 206.3 and Jojo Thomas was again among the wickets for SOC, whose run-chase was led by Zeshan Yousaf's 19-ball 29. However, the AUK bowling unit managed to pick up wickets at regular intervals and ended up defending their total with some comfort.
