European Cricket Family - Q & A: Scott Cameron Captain of Scotland’s Champions Forfarshire

In our Stars of ECL series, we look at Scott Cameron, captain of Cricket Scotland’s champion club Forfarshire, unkindly denied a shot at the title after the ECL20 postponement due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. An improving fast bowler, Scott has progressed through the Scotland ranks from youth level, making his full ODI debut against Ireland in 2018.

How much of a disappointment was the postponement of ECL20??

The postponement of ECL20 was a massive disappointment for us as a club. It was a great opportunity for the players to be a part of an international tournament and we also had a big support booked to travel over and support us. So, it was a big shame but we hope to have the opportunity to participate in the ECL at some point in the future.

How has your life changed since the COVID-19 crisis?

My life has changed a lot. Not being able to play sports, see mates, be outside 24/7 and go to work is very hard. I'm not an indoor person but if it's what I have to do to help the health service and help control the virus then I will go against my instincts and stay at home.

Cricket-wise how has your life changed since the COVID-19 crisis?

COVID-19 has affected my cricket as I needed to return home early from a winter away in Australia where our semi-final for Subiaco Floreat got cancelled. Now being home it's horrible not being able to go to the club and see/train with the boys whenever we want so it's a big change.

What’s the toughest part of the current covid19 crisis for you?

It’s really tough being stuck inside all day except for my one piece of exercise a day.

Positively, what is the best part? If any?!

Being able to give the body a little rest is a bonus but I would much rather still be out there getting ready for the start of the season.

Who or what is your greatest inspiration at this time?

All the National Health Service staff (NHS) staff here in Scotland and across the UK are a massive inspiration. They are still going to work and helping people that are suffering from COVID-19 and putting themselves at risk to try and beat the virus every day. There will be never enough thanks that can go to them all for what they do.

What do you do more of these days? What do you do less of these days?

I am doing more cycling and cooking now I have more time on my hands but am playing less golf.

What would be your dream FIRST game back after the fight has been won against COVID-19?

The dream first game back would have to be against our local rivals Arbroath. Everyone is missing cricket so there would be a big crowd at Forthill (Forfarshire’s ground) and it would be a really competitive game. Obviously, the dream would be that we come out on top too.

What was the highlight of your cricketing career so far?

Definitely making my Scotland debut in 2018 against Ireland.

Who is the best bowler you've faced? The fastest bowler you've faced?

The best and fastest bowler faced is Nathan Coulter-Nile.

Who is the best batsman you've played with?

Marcus Stoinis.

And against?

Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
